Hui Neng - Sixth Patriarch
One of the greatest of all Zen masters, Hui Neng was an illiterate monk who lived and taught in China during the fifth century CE. This painting began with a photograph of Hui Neng’s mummified body, still preserved at the Nan Hua monastery in southern China. Using Corel Painter, I added flesh onto the desiccated, skull-like face, creating an artist’s impression of what he might have looked like in life.
