Empty Cloud
The most revered Chinese Zen master of the twentieth century, Hsu Yun passed away in 1959 at the age of 120. Using pen-and-ink on wood for the first time, I wanted to portray the master in a way that reflects his name, Empty Cloud. His face is composed of tiny drops of water, cloud-like, culminating at the bottom with a bolt of lightning. All composite things are like a dream, like a fantasy, like a flash of lightning. They are thus to be regarded - The Diamond Sutra
