Empty Cloud (Hsu Yun)
The most revered Chinese Zen master of the twentieth century, he passed away in 1959 at the age of 120. If you are interested, you may want to read the autobiographical book Empty Cloud, an account of this extraordinary Zen monk’s life. Using pen-and-ink on wood for the first time, I wanted to portray the master in a way that reflects his name…Empty Cloud. His face is composed of tiny drops of water, cloud-like, culminating at the bottom with a bolt of lightning. All composite things are like a dream, like a fantasy, like a flash of lightning. They are thus to be regarded. The Diamond Sutra
