This work is a metaphor for the interaction between a Zen master and student as they work together on a koan (a subject of meditation in Zen Buddhism). In Chinese culture and in legend, the dragon is a symbol of wisdom, so I spent a long time on the blue dragons face, wanting to convey a sense of deep insight, tranquillity and joy. In this piece I wanted to give an impression of enlightenment and transcendence, using mythic elements from a culture steeped in Buddhism. Ten years in creation, this painting is highly detailed and more than 50Mb in size.
