These paintings evolved as experiments in pure geometry and color, based on the circle as symbol. In Buddhist cultures, circular art developed into highly formalized expressions of spiritual states and realms. In India and China, the first mandalas appeared, depicting the lands and enlightened visions of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. In Zen, the circular art form became an “enso,” a simple, spontaneous ink-brushed circle, symbolizing timeless perfection. These Geometric Mandalas were specifically created to enhance life energy and positively affect the feng shui within the space where they are displayed. They can also be seen and used as a visual meditation (yantra) without intermediary interpretation. These paintings are much higher in resolution and detail than seen here.
